Lake Kawaguchiko - day 12
Today we decided to take it easy, so we woke up rather late and had breakfast at the hostel. We did some very necessary laundry and sorted out our trip to Australia in the meantime. We booked a 9-day tour from Alice Springs to Darwin which involves camping, hiking, canoeing, swimming in waterfalls and 4x4 excursions! We're very excited about it! Since we had to wait for the laundry to be done, we had lunch at the hostel as well. After that, we decided to walk around Lake Kawaguchiko to try and see Mount Fuji from there. We walked to the bridge and got all excited cause we saw a bunch of clouds and a vague shape of a mountain behind them... So we took a cable car up another mountain to get a better view. Mount Fuji is huge! It's very impressive cause it stands all by itself, with no other mountains around it. We hiked to the top of the other mountain and then took the cable car back down again. We went back to the hostel and rented a bike. We rode all around Lake Kawaguchiko (20 kilometers) and enjoyed the nice scenery of the lake with Mount Fuji in the background. By then the clouds had disappeared from the top, but still remained around the lower part. When we got back to the hostel, we went shopping for food and then headed to the Onsen (japanese equivalent of a spa, except way cheaper! = 5 euros to get in!). It was very relaxing! Tomorrow we are going to try to climb Mount Fuji (3776 meters high)... we'll let you know how it went!
